Gems of CLs

I know when we find them we like to keep them quiet for ourselves But can anyone recommend a good CL in the south lakes or Yorkshire dales area? Preferably with EHU though not essential. More importantly nice walking, and peaceful, maybe a pub nearby. I promise I won't tell anyone else

We would have used it after York but it meant heading back up again, so heading down to Clumber and Old Brampton worked out well.

I like the sound of that private site you used in York, Cherry Tree/Fields? Is the cycle path into city fairly easy? We have a short break to fit in after Easter, before we head up to Lake District.

Yes, Jeep and me at home! OH had fun, wasn't too stuck, but needed a bit more than owners car to give it a push. We suggested helping, to avoid damage to grass, they were a very nice couple, looking a tad worried! Very busy all CLs around, lots of folks up there to see Flying Scotsman. That looks a nice CL at Fox and Rabbit, but a bit pricey. HS though I think!Happy

I believe unless it's changed the CL at the Fox and Rabbit pub does not have EHU.   Or do you mean the site behind which I believe is a CCC - CS.   There is also a CL or CS opposite the Fox and Rabbit so a lot of choice in the area.    I love this area, would love to retire up there but just a pipe dream at the moment as another few years before I can consider that!

Fox and Rabbit has EHU now Moonstone. We took a look at the CS down the back lane opposite as well, again very nice, good views. We are keeping an eye on properties up there for our final move! Happy

That's good news - how much per night?   If it's anything like the pub prices it will be expensive!    We use one on the Newton On Rawcliffe Road - you can walk down into Levisham Laughing

Showing £15 per night, which is just for HS and EHU, so on expensive side. Is it a CL at Newton Upon Rawcliffe? We looked at a nice cottage there.

I have just realised which CL you mean! It is further on where Forest road splits, you used to be able to drive Forest track down to Levisham, but FC have put up some dodgy notices and gates now!

Other road leads on up past Wheeldale Roman road and down to ford! We were up there on Monday, lovely little walk through woods along the stream. Our dogs usually learn to swim as puppies in that stream!

Yes I love it there but that's not the one.   We stay at Oak Tree Farm (Andy and Jo).   Only has 6amp electrics though and it the past year, she has added a camping field, and held a couple of large rallies.   It is her intention to have yurts at some point too.     What was a nice quiet CL is rapidly becoming a much larger commercial concern which is shame, although can't blame them as they are in business after all.    That will also be the reason she's put the price up from £10 to £13 (there are toilets/showers now)

Yes it's Cherry Trees. Here's the link for you to copy & paste, as I can't make it live :-http://www.cherrytreecottagecs.co.uk/home

There are a couple of cycle ways into the city, one through the environ and the other follows the river. There are cycle leaflets in the site's information room. Definitely a site we will use again, out of main season.
