Filtering facilties in CL searches

I don't know about anyone else but I get really frustrtated with the filter options when searching for CLs.

Whilst I appreciate that everyone has differnt criteria but there are few things that I'm really bothered about when booking a CL. One is EHU which is already an option but the other two are views and price! Now surely views would be a relatively simple option to include (and perhaps remove the ridiculous option of dogs allowed as they're are at probably 99% of CLs anyway!). Price would perhaps be more difficult but surely not beyond the bounds of possibility?  Other thoughts anyone?

You are being a little unrealistic here, TH. What is a view? It's such a subjective thing that it's impossible to decide if any particular view is worth having or not.

As for dogs, many CLs exclude them and a lot of people like to ensure they only find dog friendly sites when they search so I think you're on a loser with that one.

You posted something similar the other day. Did you contact CC with your thoughts? It's the way to go you know.

I don't think a category of "views" is unrealistic at all. Some mention it in their blurb that they have views but that would also be a bit ambiguous I guess from your perspective unless pictures and or description say specifically what they are. To me there is a clear distinction between a site that is enclosed by walls, buildings, hedges etc and one that is open and offers views. Perhaps stating whether a site is sheltered or not might be a converse way of approaching it?

Another dubious filter is the one for "some hardstanding" as it is literally that! Some sites that claim to have hardstanding literally have a plot where one caravan or camper van might stay at the entrance in case of very wet conditions! Others have it to mean a full 5 (or more) pitches!

I have to say I strongly disagree with your ascertion about dogs when looking for CLs. It is distinctly unusual to come accross a site that specifcially does not allow dogs and my comment about the dogs welcome filter was more about the fact that some of those filters are pretty much meaningless such as battery charging! Even Coast/beach within 5 miles is bit odd as surely if you want that you'll look on a map anyway!!?!!?

One icon I cannot recall ever seeing on my searching is the "children welcome" one. Obviously having children we avoid adult only sites but in all our researching of sites (which have covered literally hundreds of CLs) I can't ever recall aseeing a site specifcially saying they are child friendly. That potentially leads on to another discussion which isn't for this thread though!!!

I'm not sure which part you mean about posting something similar the other day? Certainly I do contact CC from time to time about a few issues - I have done about this very issue only to be told that it is something they will look into in the future! That was a couple of years ago and I've not noticed any changes! Perhaps further correspondance might be in order.

Indeed it might as I fear you are unlikely to achieve anything by posting on the forum.

It's good to get it off my chest though! :-)

TH, you said " It is distinctly unusual to come accross a site that specifcially does not allow dogs". Following a quick look through the Site directory there are about 80 CLs that don't allow dogs.

I would also agree that a children welcome and a non ehu criteria would be helpful.  Price and location are main factors for me (alongside good reviews) but I the cynical part of me thinks that there is no price filter as from what I understand, CLs are not particularly encouraged to keep their prices low.

I imagine there is no price filter because the website at present is not up to it. I can see problems with a filter though as the information published by the Club might not be correct, as happened in a number of cases when the new Directory was published.

As far as CL pricing is concerned individual owners decide on their own price, which depends on their own expenditure setting up and maintaining the site, and also the expenses incurred in running it, and hopefully a bit of profit.

I think that's spot on oakapple.

We are not really bothered about views as the intention when using the caravan is not to sit in it all day admiring the view.  However a more realistic option would be to be able to identify which CLs have water hookup at each pitch.  In most cases on a CL you can simply drain the waste water into the hedge.
