Extras

Just back from a tour round Staffordshire and was surprised at one site that wanted to charge me extra if I erected my awning and extra for my dog.

Needless to say I didn't put out the awning.

I'm pretty sure they would not have come out to help me with the awning or offered to take my dog for a walk...so why the extra.  £15 a night is reasonable....an extra £1.50 for nothing is not.

Grumble over.

Apart from this the owners were very nice.

That’s the beauty of what I do. Being offgrid and using basic sites, I tend not to come across this sort of thing- however - I have found out in the past that I am not immune to it. Always ring first and ask them if there are any ‘ extras’ to be paid for. I remember going to a CL site in North Somerset some years ago- before we went offgrid-  We were attending our daughters wedding and the stay on the site was to tie up final arrangements. This, the CL owner knew when we booked. It would obviously involve people visiting our site. It was only when we had pitched and settled in that we were told that people visiting site would cost us £4 for each one and on every visit. And there were other ‘charges’ too. We have never left a site so fast!  Fortunately we found another site which was a  ‘what you see is what you get’ site. So always check- the vast majority of sites are fine but there’s always the ‘chancer’ that tries it on.

Lots of sites charge for dogs to deter people from bringing them.   That way, the site can advertise as dog-friendly when they aren't.

We also tend to avoid CL's that have extra charges which bump the price up beyond what we're willing to pay, although location is the key attraction for most of our visits.
