Expensive CL's

I thought it strange that I had not come across such a site in Chelmsford

We have found some lovely examples CY, sometimes wholly private, but still small, other times it might be a CL but with another small private pitching area close by, sometimes a CS area. We don’t call these “commercial” as they are just too homely and personal. Great addition for us if touring, fill the gaps nicely. Area around Hadrians Wall is crying out for something like this, even NPA have acknowledged that places to stay are lacking.

I apologise for my poor use of the English language as I was educated in Africa.  I was not criticising any CL owner but I was pointing out that they add a lot of unnecessary facilities to a CL which they then expect the punter to pay and then wonder why people complain about high prices!

We require EHU for personal reason and I apologise if that upsets you as we would love to go on non EHU rallies.   

What I was saying why pay £15_ for a CL when you can stay on a nice quiet commercial site down the road for a few pounds extra.  We still use CLs as prefer them to either CCC or commercial site but price and value for money is a factor!

I think I know what you mean Surfer, it’s a bit of a cycle that’s possibly driving higher fees. Putting in more things that could be described as CL extras, eg, loos, toilets, roadways and hardstandings, serviced pitches etc...... all incur costs, and need to be recouped. But luckily the CL network remains quite diverse, and there are sites to suit all needs and choices, as well as prices. Location remains our primary choice element. 

As for the CL of the Year competition, it’s probably very nice for those that are nominated, and indeed go onto win. But the Club never details how the votes are cast and calculated, so it remains a mystery to me. Again it’s subjective. We stay on some sites we consider little places of camping heaven, but we never vote. I asked one if he knew about CLofY and he just chuckled, said he could do without the hassle! 😁

I think that those users who want the facilities choose to pay for them - no idea if they then complain. I could fully understand a CL owner wondering why a member should complain when they have chosen to use that site.

I prefer a site with stoned access and hard standing with EHU and I am happy to pay the price that this brings about. Often this means paying for toilet and or shower facilities as well. Not something that I really need but the same applies to many sites.  

Looks just like a Non-facilities CC site.Their web site say that they have 20 pitches and are they're charging £10 per unit plus £2 per adult. Will certainly make a note of it for a visit in the future. Thanks for the info, CY.

It has only recently obtained a licence. It is possibly out of date unless the owner intends to keep it as members only. I will check later today.

With regard to Croxall Farm, yes they will now take none members after a bit of vetting to ensure you are a genuine tourer.
