We are currently on a cl in Dorset, 5 van rule. Ha Ha. Currently 8 vans and by tomorrow could be twelve. Apparantly a rotary club meet. How wrong is this ,everybody is so close, we go home tomorrow yippee.

If memory serves BB they were both CL’s but stand ready to be corrected

Posted on 03/09/2019 14:47

Yes they were, and both had their own water supply and chemical toilet emptying points. Two separate CLs completely.

I've reported your post Richardandross in the hope that Maddie can give a definite answer on that point.

Thanks Jill. I await Maddie's response with interest. If this Club's response is actually relaxed about the issue, it might be that we have an owner switching allegiance!smile

Oneputt -  I don't know if your comment was directed at the example I gave, but the owner in question is an absolute stickler for the rules (be it C&CC or CAMC) and therefore isn't complaining and definitely wouldn't bend the rules. Yes, he could go down the commercial route but he recognises the advantages of being with either Club and wishes to stay with one or the other.

What is baffling me is why has he been told - by both Clubs - that two CL/CS's are not allowed together - whether 'owned' by different members of the family or not - when I have stayed on one such 'double' CL not more than 10 miles away?

I wonder if Maddie could clarify exactly what this Club's stance on this is?

My post was not relevant to any particular CL or owner although I have on 2 occasions reported CLs due to overcrowding.  My post, was, I thought pointing out the obvious.

I’ve had 2 occasions when I’ve had to leave my van on a cl and have always agreed with the owner, disconnected the services, moved it from the pitch, pack everything away and shut all the blinds. Picked up the van at the earliest opportunity.  Most people would think that entirely reasonable Both owners refused to take payment for the time the van was left.

WRT 2 x CL,s run by the same owner I’ve stayed on a couple and never had a problem, separate facilities and for all I know may be run as 2 separate businesses.

I have stayed at one near Brigg on a couple of occasions. One owned by one member of the family and the other by a different member. Can't see how having 2 different owners could disqualify them from running CLs providing all terms are met. There was a walking lane between the above mentioned CLs but I seem to recall that they did both use the same waste bins so maybe they were breaking the rules then.

Haven't been back to the area for some years so not sure if they are still going either as CLs or independent sites.

We stayed at Low Hedgeley in Northumberland when it was a CL. It’s a lovely site and kept to very high standards. The owner wanted to run two CLs but was told he had to have two separate entry roads. Nice to see he has now gone down the independent route as I think he will undoubtedly have a thriving business.

That looks a spanking site bells, just what we are looking for next month. I am in a Rothbury tonight, we might drive past tomorrow for a peek. Can you post a link onto the Small Private Sites sticky thread, so it’s  there for all? Unless you have already added it of course!😁

Nice looking CS as well BB, was that somewhere in SE?

Posted on 03/09/2019 18:32

I did mention Low Hedgeley on the Small Private Sites thread but I can't remember if I put link up.....anyway its very peaceful and the owner Harry is one of the nicest gentleman I've ever met!

If you're looking for decent pub grub in the vicinity The Tankerville Arms at Eglingham ìn pretty good and about 10 minutes drive awaylaughing

We stayed at Low Hedgeley when it was a CL and agree it is very good but if you want a proper CL Brandon Ford on the opposite side of the main road about half a mile away is excellent. Newly opened this year we spent three weeks there and only left when we were turfed off because they were fully booked!

Longtimecaravanner that’s the sign of a good CL! Thanks for the info, we want to head back up to Northumberland next year a plans are starting to take shape. I’ll have a look at Brandon Ford.

Completely off thread so I apologise 🤭 but another good eatery is Milan’s in the centre of Wooler (near Powburn - Low Hedgeley Farm). A nice Italian restaurant but you must book.

We popped into have a look at River Breamish Site, very nice. Didn’t spot the CLs, but we were flying past in truth. Stopped off in Wooler at Milk Bar, got to be done!

We are over Border now, near Melrose. Will be looking out for a few CLs and Sites while here. Gertie tour is next up for this area!😁

Agree Brandon Ford is excellent, especially if youre a keen walker as there are good walks from the site and its easy to get into the Cheviots. I can also recommend Chillingham Barns CL.

Or if you'd like to be nearer the coast Shipley Smallburns is well placed.

There are two which used to be CL's in the Bamburgh/Seahouses area called 'Westfield Paddock' and 'Fowberry Farm '. Both have fab locations but we haven't been to either for a few years so maybe do some research and see what Google throws up.

Hopefully you find somewhere good: we have beautiful and often deserted hills and beaches to explore up North😊
