Hi

I recently tried to book a CL for 3 nights, only to be told by the owner they are saving the pitches for min 7 night stays, is this becoming the new norm in anyone else's experience?

Regards

The CL was Ashfield caravan site at Lockton, I can understand there attempt to recoup some lost money, but it doesn't feel in the spirit of CLs to act like main sites, they did comment unless it was late availability I could perhaps fit in my 3 nights, needless to say another site now has my business

It would not suit us, we rarely stay anywhere for more than 5 nights.

Not a restriction we have come across anywhere before.

I see they do not mention the minimum 7 nights either on their listing or on their website, so there may well be many disappointed campers.

Same here K. Last time we used a Morris Leisure site it was 3 nights for the price of two, We booked 5 nights and left without claiming the other free one. Normally we book 6 nights only if meeting up with friends in the area

The 7 night minimum booking is mentioned in their T & Cs.

Pity really as Ttda has recommended this site as they also have self contained cottages on site.

The T&Cs actually say a minimum of 7 nights, but less if there is late availability. Sort of book in advance and it’s 7 nights, but happy to fit in those touring on a whim and taking up late availability. It also looks as though no deposit is asked for outside of the Bank Holiday and super popular Steam and 40’s Weekend. Swings and roundabouts.

Its a great CL, with lovely owners. We know them well, and have had countless stays here without any problems or issues. Sometimes for a week or two, sometimes for 3-4 nights. I suspect we are highly likely to be up there in next few weeks, depending on what’s available and if we rejoin.

Looks like they only want people for 7 nights unless they are stuck with spare pitches then they will take you for less nights.
They can impose whatever conditions they want. People can decide if they want to accept them or not.

They will of course take you for more than seven nights, and happily fill in the rest of a half week, or a couple of days. It’s standard practice for B&Bs, cottages, pub stays...... As far as I am aware, it’s not got to be Friday to Friday, or Saturday to Saturday......😁

It’s been a CL for 48 years, so it’s unlikely that they have transgressed such rules.

As for the thought that we might ask, we don’t need to, there are lots of small private Sites in the area, that don’t require Membership of anything. Some are even listed in the Sticky thread in this section. Some of course have both a CL area, and a small private pitching area adjacent. Lots of options to consider.🙂
