Are dog owners responsible?

Firstly let me say, I love dogs, and for most of my life did own a dog. I no longer own one due to him having died and do not have the facilities for a new one. I have found though that some dog owners within the club, and I do not include all, feel that everyone wants to meet their dog.

I had a particularly bad experience (not CC related) and now feel very nervous around dogs, yet dog owners seem to think we all love their dogs. I was accosted by 3 dogs not on leads recently on a CL, and the owners response was "Don't worry, they are friendly!" Did not sound or look to friendly to me as they barked and looked like they were going to chew on my ankles and legs. Shuck me up a bit, and spoilt my holiday, but the owners did not seem to care.

It has happened on CC sites as well as CL's, and I am getting a bit fed up with having to put up with other peoples dogs.

I have met loads of responsible owners and their dogs, but the minority of idiot owners are spoiling it for the majority.

Am I alone with this view?
