Dometic refrigerator

I have a 2022 Coachman Lusso 1 sadly fitted with a tall Dometic refigerator, after a few weeks the door would fall off if not supported as you opened it, caravan returned to the dealership who modified something which has so far resolved the issue.

Then earlier this month we set off  on a 3 week holiday in this super hot weather, after 1 week the refrigerator stopped working on any supply.

It is totally dead all fuses in order and everything else in the caravan working correctly, contacted dealership who were unable to solve this problem, they did put me in contact with a Dometic representative but his advice did nothing.

He said he would come back to me later but of course he did not.11

So we purchased a cool box and struggled through the heatwave wasting various food items.

I emailed Dometic on the initial problem with the door and now this issue, they did not reply to either email.

We are now home and the dealership are waiting for a reply from Dometic, as I am.

Considering this is a very expensive item their service is nothing less than appaling! does anyone out there have any advice on this matter?

Your dealer is responsible as your contract to purchase is with them, not Dometic. Go back to your dealer and, in writing, make it clear this needs to be sorted by them or the processes of law will be instigated - The Consumer Rights Act.

You could speak to CAMC’s legal dept for advice.

If the OP has the same tall fridge as we do in our Coachman, there is no switch, only a rotary/push knob.  We too have had problems with the door not closing correctly.  Been back to the dealers 3 times!  It seems to me that this design (being able to open either side) was a solution to a problem that never really existed. IMHO, the hinge pins are too short and the lower hinges are not robust enough.

We have a 2001 model Coachman VIP special edition fitted with a Dometic fridge with two-way opening door.

The door has now fallen off on various occasions and, as a result, various pieces of broken plastic have fallen onto the floor from the surround where the door pins fit into.

It has been back to the dealership and they have tried to resolve the (apparently well-known issue) by fitting strengthening pieces of metal under the fridge frame at the bottom and spacers under the lower hinge but the problems continue. I understand that Coachman did not fit a recommended strengthening piece under the fridges in this production year for some reason (when supplied retrospectively it is apparently a piece of wood!).

The last time the door detached it then caused the lower storage pocket in the door to break it's fixing on one side so that now doesn't hold any weight without falling off!

The dealership are currently discussing matters with Dometic so I will have to see what happens but, as these Dometic fridges are approx. £1500 upwards to buy they should not have such design faults. I certainly would not buy another caravan with one fitted - we don't even use the two-way opening!

Hi we had the exact same problem and was referred to the dealer to sort it out . I contacted the dometic  service centre in Barnsley there is one in the south aswell . They don’t advertise the service however I managed to book an engineer to visit . It’s a common fault the heat exchanger becomes blocked and requires replacing , it’s a major part and has to come from Germany . Ours is on back order and we are anticipating a 12 weeks wait . Like you our van is nearly new with very little use. Domestic manufacture in two countries China and Germany the German ones are supposed to be better .ours is German !! They are stopping production in Germany and moving to Poland ,the problem is there is a daly on the new plant ,hence no parts available . This all came from the engineer and I trusted what he told me . Good luck we are still without a fridge .
