I've always thought 72 hours was too short. A week is far more realistic to dissuade speculative bookers.

I've mapped out an itinerary for about a months tour to Scotland although I have, as yet, booked nothing because I'm uncertain at the moment of my departure date. The itinerary is a bit fluid and I'm uncertain even when the departure date becomes certain where I'll be a any given point. That makes it difficult to book ahead unless I blanket booked numerous alternatives, cancelling unrequired ones as the journey progressed. Would such a course of action, although 'rule compliant' be fair on others?

The way people are talking about going to Scotland this year, you'll likely miss out if you don’t book smartish but if you're planning on wildcamping, you'll have to take your chances anyway.

The only time I book months ahead is when I know there is an event I particularly want to be at, otherwise I very much book as the mood and destination takes me and am not at all bothered if there are no pitches available on Club sites. Nine times out of ten I will book elsewhere. Even with the 4 night booking I mentioned early when I accepted just the three nights I have a motorhome stopover contingency in place for the 4th night just a few miles away just in case.

Not the way it comes across PD upthread, and it appears you use them a lot from earlier other threads and your first choice was the club site at Sandringham?

So why are you wanting the club to introduce deposits if you are not bothered?

Sorry PD lost me there? It doesn't answer my question (about wanting deposits if you are not bothered about not getting a pitch?)

But moving on if you had deposits, as you want, there might not a cancellation to pick up as I explained? The system appears to work for you.

One of the very puzzling things i and am sure others on CT and those that also  lurk around CT  seems to be the often posted by some of the way things are run and amount of space they find, when booking sites is they never post what is so different or where any of these sites are , it does make for a figment of their imagination, and in these days "doctored pictures"surprised

I have a couple of breaks booked and both are a sheaf of confirmations picked up a day at a time. My problem and I suspect your might be too is that after years of booking nothing its quite hard to get into the booking months ahead habit

Same here - not quite a day at a time but similar - my old brain found it hard to keep up as the paper piled up

It was a very interesting booking experience for me this morning, when looking to book a site in October   I was 1622 in a queue with an approx 36min wait , which I noted reduced quite quickly,

Oh dear. These are not a figment of my imagination or photo shopped
