Switching off camera alerts on Garmin

I have  a newly acquired Garmin DriveSmart 50LMT-D 5" satnav, which we bought for its W European maps before heading to France.

I'm sure there must be an easy way to get rid of the speed camera/safety camera warnings, but each time so far I think I've done it, up they pop again, and that's of course illegal in France.

Please has anyone a step-by-step simpleton's guide to managing this?

Thanks!

Thanks both. Responses on the other forum I asked on all go for the "don't bother, it's not a problem" line, so despite the literature I have warning that an unhappy policeman can do dreadful things if you have a device warning of speed cameras, I'm reassured, between the two lots of answers!

Are you sure you sure the speed alerts do actually work in France? My dated Tom Tom had speed alerts, but the option was greyed out for France ..... i.e. they didn't alert even if you wanted them to.

My Garmin sat nav automatically disables safety camera warnings as soon as I enter France. Instead, it warns of ‘an accident blackspot’’ or some other similar sounding phrase (I can’t remember the exact phrase). It took me some time to realise that this phrase really means that a speed camera location is imminent. It seems it a bit of a scam by Garmin to get round the French law but works OK for me!

Garmin sat navs don’t alert to actual cameras, only a ‘safety zone’ where a camera will be. That zone is about 200 yards long. This is completely legal in France, so although the earlier comment of don’t bother, wasn't very helpful, they were intact correct. Don’t bother.

If you don’t want the alerts, it is under proximity alerts somewhere.
