Could anyone tell me which is the best tow bar for a Ford Kuga Diesel Estate 190 Titanium Edition AWD Automatic 2021 model which has a reversing camera fitted?

PF Jones

Take your pick😉  .... how much do you want to spend? Do you want a fixed  bar or detachable?

Thank you for your reply, EmilysDad. We have always had fixed towbars with a single 13pin socket but have been told because of the reversing camera on the Kuga we need dedicated electrics fitting which puts the price up considerably.

I'm not sure why the reverse camera would make a difference, but I'd go for a dedicated harness on a new car anyway. You've spent a lot of money on your new car, why go for the cheapest towbar? 😉

With reference to towbar if you haven't ordered vehicle yet get factory fitted retractable it worked out cheaper than the quotes we had received already

We were informed from our dealers that there may be a problem with aftermarket tow bars? something to do with ad blue tank and luckily they re ordered vehicle for us.

They may have been wrong but it saved us money and I now have the assurance that I have a towbar, would have been a real downer to struggle to find suitable towbar and also no excuses from Ford re warranty.

Sorry forgot to say reversing camera is switched of when caravan/trailer is connected ,that will help me as I find it disconcerting reversing with picture of front of caravan in my peripheral view.

I will have to look at my set up next time I reverse when caravan is hitched. To be honest I can’t get along with reversing cameras. I have never noticed if it is on when reversing van as I am looking Through wing mirrors. Also when reversing I never look at it just the wing mirrors. I don’t even use the interior mirror.

I'm the same as you Dave ... I can't say I've ever looked at the screen on my car when reversing the caravan .... like you say, too busy looking in mirrors. I do use the reverse camera when I remember .... 40 yrs of using mirrors is a hard habit to break.

The reversing camera on the Kuga is great when hitching up. You can stop the car with the ball right under the hitch. I'm afraid my tow bar is an after fit. But it's not the camera that annoys me when reversing the whole outfit but the reversing sensors bleeping away. Add to that two Jack Russells that are excited at arriving on site and I'm well frazzled by the time I'm on pitch. Get the factory fitted tow bar if you are in a position to do so.

Can't you switch off the reverse sensors? Regardless of the towbar, you can switch them off on my Merc
