Discovery Sport experience

Hi all 

Just a quick question, do all discovery sports come with tow bars as standard or is this just for certain models? I am looking at a 2016 HSE 7 seat model. Thanks

Optional extra on all models, if not ticked at ordering stage in manufacture then not included. But liquorice allsorts available aftermarket.

7 seat model differs slightly if aftermarket, as exhaust gets in the way on some kits. So do some homework.

My previous car was the 7 seat model but came with factory fitted electric deployable towball.

I'm on my second Disco - through choice -  and now drive a 2018 Disco Sport 2.0 HSE 7 seat - its a great towing car. Reliability in 5 years? I've actually broken down once where, I had to call the Land River Assistance.

Each DS I have bought with the Extended Warranty (£800/annum). This has been invaluable twice and saved £1000's.

Its the most unreliable car I've ever bought - but I love it.

Pic is ours LR retailer fitted £530 2019 - 250Kg is written on it, but the nose weight for the car is 145Kg..so not sure how that fits in tbh. 

It comes as a great surprise a LR dealer would supply such a set up, as it would seem it directly contravenes the regularity EC 94/20 Type approval standard, LR themselves must have complied with.

That the towbar has a 250kg rating, will not increase the vehicle's European approval for towing noseweights up to your quoted 145 kgs.

Here I am assuming you are in Europe, not Australia or North America or elsewhere not covered by such regulations.

Absolutely right OCSID - noseweight  is king.

If somebody says you can pull XYZ you probably can, but always ensure you're within your noseweight limit set by the vehicle manufacturer.

Noseweight should always take preference. 

 Asked out of concern with the arrangement shown, fearing it is not "Type approved".

Did the LR dealer actually supply it as shown with the hook way cantilevered from the towbar's flange?

I also have concerns it features a standard 50 mm European towball?

And if so, that the arrangement might be some work around to avoid using an Al-KO extended reach towball for coupling to their AKS hitch?

Also, a standard ball has not the right shank neck dimensions either, for the full articulation of an AKS hitch.

Regarding the bolt on 50mm tow hitch supplied by Landrover, in my case it was necessary to replace it with the longer necked ALKo model. The swan necked versions supplied by Landrover do however work with ALKo hitches.
