CVT for towing

I have read much criticism of CVT for towing.  Two months ago we took delivery of a new Nissan X-Trail 2.00 litre 4X4 with CVT.  Last Saturday we towed our new van home from the dealer, a distance of sixty miles.  I was most impressed by the way the CVT performed.  Yes it is different from a TC but then it is different with totally different characteristics.  I could almost sense the computer working out that there was a load on the back and deciding at lightning speed how best to deal with it.  Well done Nissan.

..... and industry have been getting rid of CVT / rubber band drives over the years in preference of electrickery to vary motor speeds. wink

I suppose if the radio is turned up loud enough, it will drown out the hum/whine/ at high revs when floored or under load. I had CVT on my Raleigh Supermatic moped in the 60's cool

If its a CVT, how does it have 9 speeds? Continuously variable is in the title  ..... unless it was one of the VAG boxes that used electrickery to give the impression of a gear change.
