Car tyre pressures when towing

After a recent car service I was told that the shoulders of the newish tyres on the back of my VW Passat estate were showing abnormal wear. I explained that I had recently bought a caravan  and it was suggested that I should increase the pressures to allow for a full load of five people and luggage, even though it was only my wife and I in the car. This meant that instead of 23 At . all round they would now be 27 At. on the front  and 30 At. on the back. The hitch limit on the Passat is 90 kg and when connected the weight was well in that limit.

I mention all this because so much time  is correctly spent talking about caravan tyre pressures but some owners may not see the importance of the tow car pressures.

Have you checked your car  tyres recently?
