Breakaway cable attachment

Hi all,

I have just got a nice shiny new Volvo XC70, fitted with Volvo detachable towbar.  It has a plate with a round hole in it to attach the breakaway cable to, and the documentation shows a picture of the breakaway cable clipped directly to the plate.  The hole is too small for the clip to pass through and clip back on the cable as per the Club's advice leaflet and the instructions in the caravan owners manual.

I'm a bit surprised that Volvo of all people supply a towbar to the UK market that does not conform to standard UK recommended practice.  I have taken the matter up with Volvo and they are looking into it, but I just wondered what other members thoughts and experiences are on this subject.

Previous car was Jag X-type estate with Jag towbar, and the metal loop on that gave room for the clip to pass though.

Regards

Mick
