BMW's - good or bad?

I am looking for a second hand car to pull a 5 berth caravan (not yet purchased). I have been advised to look at BMW's - 3/5 series as they are the best second hand cars for around £4000 that will do the job.  Unfortunately -

1 - i don't like BMW's

2 - I know very little about cars (apart from the ones i don't like)

anyone have any views on this - please .......
