Any Subaru Outback owners?

My budget always puts me in the used car market so whilst new diesels are probably OK, I have fallen foul of enough EGR and DPF issues to put me off diesels going forward.

One of the petrol or petrol-hybrid options I'm considering is the Subaru Outback. I'm just wondering if there are any current or previous Outback owners out there who can give their insight on it's suitability as a tow car.

The majority of the petrol versions have the 2.5l 4 cylinder coupled to a CVT box although there are a few older 3.0l and 1 or 2 very rare 3.6l 6 cylinder versions which, I have to admit, I'm not sure if they have a CVT or a conventional auto box.

So does the 2.5l have enough oomph for a 1400 MTPLM van?
