I am considering the above (albeit i have doubts about petrol for towing). Anyone on here tow with one or t’other? My very short experience of a Volvo hybrid has put me off Volvo, too many problems.

Are you looking at new/ex demonstrator or used. We looked into the new Skoda Superb Estate hybrid, if you intend to tow with the hybrid you will need the factory towing upgrade at the time of ordering, apparently it cannot be retro fitted?

Earlier VW PHEV apparently suffered from some transmission problems, the generator is located inside the 6 speed DSG transmission. Not sure if later model suffer the same issues.

I have just come back from the New Forest, we have changed our car from a 2017 Ford Kuga 2.0 diesel 150 bhp powershift to a Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 PHEV towing our 2016 Swift Conqueror 480 1500 kg absolutely no problems it tow as well as the Ford Kuga 26.7 mpg going and 27.3 mpg return journey.

The best place to look is on the PHEV forums those who tow caravans with PHEV are in the best place to advise you. Like you I had serious doubts, I was advised to run the battery down to 50/70% and use the charge button, the system will store energy and push you up the hills.
