Just had a very competitive quote from the clubs motor insurance department for my tow car.  They suggested a policy by Ageas.  Does anyone have experience or knowledge of this company?

Ageas is for the "older" generation ,we are forever getting mail drops from them but have not had a "competitive" quote from them as yet, depends what you mean by competitive ,as when my renewal came round for car insurance Devitts aka CC quote was way up on last years, so went via our bank (Halifax) and they beat it by a large margin

Not car insurance but we have just gone back to Camc for house insurance and that is through Ageas. Went away from them about 3 years ago as they were not competitive but always shop around and this year they were. Strangely we got a quote from the other club also with Ageas but it was higher for exactly the same cover.

When I worked in insurance Ageas were known as Fortis, a Belgium Insurer. I can't remember the exact circumstances but about 10 years ago Fortis were the insurers for a major catastrophic accident and nearly went under. They were reborn as Ageas and as far as I know are a reputable company backed by the ABI scheme (bit like bank scheme). Not personally had any dealings with them but wouldn't have any qualms if competitive.

Having also worked at an insurance brokers for many years, we were happy to recommend Ageas for both Motor and Home. They were usually pretty efficient when dealing with claims. Both our motor policies are with them.

Wherenext, I can remember"  Fortis "too.

I'm not with the Club for motor insurance at the moment.  We tend to swap and chance.  However we have the house insurance through the Club and that is Ageas. They were competative last year and this years premium was only a tiny bit more so weve gone with it again.  One nice thing about Ageas through the Club is that they will extend the time you are allowed to be away in one go to 90 days.  It's an arrangement the Club have with Ageas specifically for it's touring members. (P.S. the 90 days is not the total for the year, but a total for one trip.  In theory you could go away for 90 days, come home for one day and go off for another 90 days etc).  Just thought it was worth mentioning.

Helen, I was sitting in a cafe in Belgium today and looked across the square and saw a sign on a bank "BNP Paribas Fortis". It would seem that the banking arm of Fortis was sold off to BNP when Fortis had to restructure sometime new the financial crisis in 2008. The name still lives on.
