For those of you who are interested in having a bit of refreshing air in the van or wherever, the portable air cooling unit which used to be known as Transcool is now marketed under the brand Totalcool. This unit is fully British having the plastic covering moulded in Britain and the final assembly done somewhere else but in these islands. Having seen the new unit at the show yesterday, I think it’s a massive improvement on the Australian Transcool. It now comes with a night setting which is whisper quiet and  4 more settings all of which are now by convenient soft push buttons. The unit looks smarter and the best bit is the price has dropped to £279.99. It can be used on 12v and at home on 240v. It no longer has an outside tank but is all in one unit but will still run between 10 and 30 hrs on one fill - put a small ice pack in it and the air it produces is even cooler. The use of essential oils in it like citronella etc to keep bugs away is still very useful. The consumption even on high speed is 0.9amps. On Boost speed it is 1.8amps. The poor mans air con- could be!!
