Toilet cleaning fluids

Hi all,

I imagine this has been done before but I can't find it. What toilet cleaning fluids do I need? I know there will be different views but if I was to do it according to best practise, should I have the following;

- Fluid to go into the tank to break down nasties

- Fluid to clean the tank out from time to time

- Fluid to put down the bowl occasionally for cleanliness and a fresh smell

I can't seem to find a separate water tank for my toilet bowl, so assume my toilet gets water from the main water tank, so I don't think I need a flushing type fluid.

Thanks in advance for helping with this rock n roll subject.

Elsan green in flush and holding tanks, just the one bottle to carry then. I tried Kampa but one year over winter I noticed sediment settling in the bottle on the garage shelf and changed to the Elsan.

Every few days when I empty the holding tank I wipe the bowl down with a spot of pine disinfectant on a piece of kitchen towel.

I do not bother with posh loo rolls, just the stuff we use at home, but not thick/pleated stuff.

At end of season I inspect the tank and descale as needed with Kilrock Mega-K.

Thanks everyone. Some good solid advice that you all seem to be in agreement about

Snap again.  Just a warning if you put the Thetford Reservoir fluid (pink) in the fresh water tank (the one that serves only the toilet) you risk getting black stuff in it which is a pain to flush out.  Question is do you need anything in the reservoir?  I stopped using it years ago.   At home I bet you do not have anything in your WC tank!

I don't need to put anything in the flush water at home .... but I don't have a cassette/tank either 🙄

My caravan toilet has suffered black bits in the pink flush in the past, but I think that was down to using too much. I just put a splash in the flush tank now & don't see black bits.

Since I use biological washing capsules from Lidl I have no need to descale

I believe the limescale build up is the result of hard water. I also have an exterior fill onboard tank on my caravan and after a couple of weeks away often notice a light limescale line running down the side of the van from the filler where I have overfilled.

It does a better job as you can spray it everywhere that might be required, not just the flushes route, under the seat being an example.

Presumably it's a Male product.😂
