Replace Bulldog Max wheel clamp

We have a 2007 Coachman Pastiche 460/2, which had a Bulldog Max clamp when bought. Probably unsurprising, this has completely rusted through now, so I need to replace. The clamp screwed in to a socket behind the wheel, which I kind of gather may have been factory fitted, but that is guesswork. I see in various posts there is talk of some legal wrangle between Bulldog and Al-ko, so do not understand what makes will now fit.

I am undecided therefore whether to replace with the type that looks more like a police wheel clamp, ie 3 arms that surrpound the tyre, or the one with the screw in socket. Again, do I gather that the Al-ko type means you have to park millimeter perfect, which frankly is a pain.

I will probably look second hand, so any advice offered would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Don't know about ''unsurprising" your Bulldog Max has rusted through .... I'm amazed it has. They're a pretty solid lump. If you want another you'll have to buy second hand as they're no longer made. As you say, Alko took them to court over copyright.

The receiver ("socket") that that's mounted on the caravan chassis is factory fit by Alko.

We had an Aklo one and yes it was a pain to fit so changed to Nemesis Wraith which is really fitted in a few minutes. Some people say the Alko is easy but we didn't find that.

Check what your insurance company says you have to have and where is your caravan stored and go from there.

All wheel clamps can be overcome, you're just buying time.

Just another thought with the Alko screw in, if you get one then you will need to find the right red rim inset part that fits snugly into your wheel. It's a custom fit. If your caravan is old there may not be one. There was a post recently about waiting times for them as well.

If you look here: https://www.al-ko-secure.co.uk/

you can search if a rim insert is available for your caravan.
