Ladder Safety

Im afraid it doesn't look like something i would trust and the harness looks dangerous. I'll stick to my stepladder.

Wow! £51, i use a couple of big solid type sponges that were part of the packaging for something i bought on line, both knees replaced so ladders not good for me, but only wash roof once per year and find if caravan laid up for winter if you tilt either front/rear water runs off so roof never so bad. 

Probably fortunately with the caravan in the car port we never see the dirt on its roof.

We can see the house's various roofs, but I have never been up there cleaning them.

Therefore, I stuggle to understand this "need" to be up on the van's roof washing it, indeed like the house roof I feel the potential to do it more damage than good, means it is better not to do. Certainly the chances of doing me no good are best served by not doing it, so not needing this product.

Just used the Slip stop to help cleaning the caravan roof, it certainly made the ladder steady for the task  with no slipping giving more confidence. This is something I would recommend for more safety. I only worked from the ladder without using the harness. 

Just use a ladder with a wider base for more stability. I got one of those telescopic ones from Aldi and has a bar fixed to the bottom legs and is very sturdy. similar to these from screwfix.

I bought a fibreglass Werner from Screwfix recently - not cheap but far more stable than the aluminium I used before, it is heavy though.

Best thing we ever bought is a tripod ladder - many will have seen them in use at NT properties. Incredibly stable, doesn't need the ground to be flat or level. 

There are many varieties but our six-step (of which you can climb four) cost us £156. They are so light you can carry them with one hand but ours with withstand a 150Kg person (no, I'm not that heavy!!)

my concern with this device is that it depends on the strength of your awning rail.

If there is no notified SWL of the awning rail, how can you feel safe that it will support the ladder with your weight should the unfortunate happen. My vans rails are just screwed in place for instance.

I don't see the point of the long harness, if you should fall on the ladder side it is to long, if you position the ladder close to end, the harness is still to long and you will hit the ground. if it is meant to stop you going to far from the ladder then how are you going to carry out the task in hand.

(being a H&S risk assessor I cringed at the video!)

I suppose it would do the job ok, but there are other factors to consider (i mean is your caravan roof strong enough to walk on?) besides the product itself.
