Grey Water Disposal

I notice an advert for THIS in the club magazine. It certainly looks easier than emptying a waste carrier all the time. Anyone used one? Are they any good? I assume an advert in the magazine means their use is acceptable on club sites or am I wrong?

I am not sure if it has always been there - but no one has mentioned it. If you go to the ad now you see this banner come up. So definitely not allowed on club sites.

Correct.  The Dutch have used "never full buckets" for years.  😜

Many years ago we used to rally with the club. Very early on we were introduced to 'the Marshal's bucket. Very similar concept to the Dutch 'never full' bucket smile

Would you not have thought a staff member could have stepped into this thread to clarify the position?

It's been said several times, communication skills aren't great in CAMC.😒

Just because an advert is in Club Mag/website doesn’t mean the particular product can be used on Club Sites. It’s about money, advertising revenue, first and foremost. Bear this in mind, utilise some common sense and it soon becomes clear what might or might not be a good purchase if Club Sites are your main stays.

A simple home modified bit of pipe, of much longer length, and not flexible, taken into a hedge bottom is allowed on a lot of CLs. Best used just for shower/handwash water. Washing up greasy water with any large bits doesn’t go down our drains, keeps things a lot nicer and free flowing. Prevention being easier than cure……😁👍

Remember the scouting days digging a wet pit placing sticks then grass on top this acted as the filter when waste water was poured through it at the end of  the day grass was chucked on the fire and a new filter made

Hi everyone, to clarify, we do not accept these on our UK Club campsites. On other sites, we suggest you seek the site owner's permission before use, including at our Certified Locations.

Practically every CL I've ever been on have said "In the hedge". I have 7m of flexi-pipe which I can move about a bit to spread the discharge. I just have to pitch sufficiently close to a thirsty bit of foliage. Don't forget folks, we are talking a bit of soapy water here, not nuclear waste. Anyone remember government guidance from 1976?

Don’t disagree, but it’s about scale and concentrations. On a CL with a few vans it ain’t going to add up to much, but in larger, busier settings it could reach problem proportions. Unfortunately it isn’t just soapy water, there’s a fair bit of vegetable oil & animal fats disposed of via grey water.

In 1976 it was single households disposing of waste water, not inviting all the neighbours round to chuck it in your hedge as well!
