I turned the nearly empty bottle off about 45mins ago and turned my full bottle on and the smell which was strongest in the bottle compartment has gone.

PD it is well known in engineering circles that a seal under pressure can make a good seal without the joint being fully tight but when the pressure relaxes it can leak.  It may be worth just tweaking each hose nut to see if one, or more, are a little slack.

Just had my habitation service done and took the opportunity to enquire further about the gas smell. It is a well known problem with Clesse regulators, they leak when a bottle is nearly empty.

This is the one I have. The solution is to fit another make of regulator, Truma was suggested.

I googled the problem and notice there have been recalls on some types of Clesse regulators but not this one as far as I can see. The problem may not arise on newer regulators, mine is at least 9 years old. I'll probably replace it IDC
