Gas regulators

Looks as if I need to replace a faulty on board regulator. Given we use so little gas and only need small cylinders thought this might be a good time to dispense with the on board regulator and purchase one of Campingaz's twin regulators that fit the R907 and also the much smaller CV470 which would be a good back up. Has anyone done this and if so how do you connect the hose from the regulator (that sits on the cylinder) to the caravan gas pipe work? I'm very aware that fiddling about with gas appliances and pipe work can be dangerous so I propose to ask a friend of mine who is GasSafe registered to do the work but before I do that I would just like to know if it can be done. Many thanks

Looks like it's not allowed.

Quite who is not allowing it?

I can understand that a NCC "approved" workshop/maintainer might not dare do so as that is their "standard".

However, they are effectively just a trade mutual benefit organisation, focused on self-interest.

Is there any UK statutory regulation banning a DIY fitting of a cylinder mounted regulator; the shops are full of these somebody other than myself must be using them. Our 2008 Hymer came factory fitted with a cylinder mounted regulator, thankfully.

Many thanks for the responses. I'm going to play safe and if required will have the bulkhead regulator replaced like for like. Shame though, I was looking forward to having the ability to carry just a small back up cylinder for those very rare occasions when you run out of gas mid cooking a meal.
