do you use a groundsheet ?

Having recenlty bought an Isabella Magnum awning, Isabella recommend placing the groundsheet down first to help protect and keep clean the awning when erecting and dismantling. I have noticed that, especially on hardstanding pitches, the stones can leave marks on the fabric. We now use a larger groundsheet, then fold it back after the awning is up, then lay a carpet over the top. Anyone else do the same or is this too much of a hassle to bother ?
