Dash Cams

I'm considering buying one but, whilst I don't wish to pay a fortune, I want one that produces reasonable images. Is a 'dash cam' essential as it appears to my untutored eye that these cheaper 'GoPro' style of cameras would do the same job. Feedback and recommendations before trawling the stands at the NEC would be welcome.

I have one of these Not expensive, no distracting screen on it, & it sits out of sight behind my rear view mirror. You need a reasonably up to date smart phone to pair up to it though.

I have a Nextbase as well. The 512.

It allows rotation of the display so the cam can be dashboard mounted thus removing the need to take it off the windscreen to allow the use of cab blinds.

Mine came from Aldi. £40 and much better than I expected for the price

A dash cam is not essential,  but in these days of ever more aggressive attitude of drivers  they can be an aid if we are involved in an accident that was caused by the never give way to and have to get past any leisure vehicle that may hold me up attitude of other drivers,it also very noticeable just how many Buses and Hgvs now seem to be fitted with several

CY, biggest/best tip-ensure it's full HD 1080p. If you need to use the images in court a fuzzy image that can't make out a number plate or persons or vehicles features will be rejected as evidence.

After buying Nextbase for the front we got one of these for the rear (had been run into by another driver) The resolution seems high enough. Only difference apart from the price is that it doesn't have GPS (so no position or  speed readout). OK, it may have some other performance differences but, for the money, a bargain!

This site has some really good reviews of a wide range of dashcam

Personally I have a DOD ls460w, which is similar to a Nextbase model. (No doubt superceded by now) It works really well and is unobtrusive on the screen.
