hi,

This has probably been asked thousands of times!!

how dou.keep your awning safe in the wind.

ive got it reasonable apart from one thing. Wind blowing face on to the awning and blowing canvas into centre pole. Just bent the pole and had to take the awning down. I miss it for boots and dog stuff.

how can you stop that the upright poles going in the middle? Specifically the centre one.

Awning is a Bradford portico xl plus with easy alloy frame.

should I just go and buy a proper winter awning e.g. Isabella winter. We don't need a lot of room but we do need some.

I just use extra guy lines tied to the front poles which are 25mm steel, guy lines on front canvas also stops the canvas blowing in. Also inside on the pole is a storm prop.

Cheers Chris. I was thinking of something like a prop made from a veranda pole up to the centre of the leg.

I use guys GT but I tend to use the strong elastic that you can buy off the roll at Caravan accessory shops. It tends to be more gentle as it ' gives with the wind' but is strong enough to deal with a gust. It's the gusts that cause the trouble.

I have just lost my free standing awning, two poles were broken. It is repairable in fact I had one spare but not two. One thing I was impressed with was the way the awnings with pump up supports withstood the blow.

Once saw a cool dude (in Spain) when faced with a storm force wind and a awning threatening to take off run a stanley knife round the awning channel grinning with a "what's the problem" kind of look before going back inside to his glass of wine.cool

I suspect that steel poles stand up to winds better than alloy.

Mine blew away several years ago and I decided I could do without one.   - just like the nice Motorhome people do.  No more getting up in the night to tie the brute down. No more wrestling with wet canvas . No more having to dry the thing when we get home.  Gone, forgotten, and not missed.

Really missed it after we lost it.

very impressed with a couple of isabella magnums which stood up to everything Doris could throw at them!! They didn't even have guys on them!! I was very jealous looking out the window at them!!!

That might be the way to go but I'm going to try and get a couple of years out of this one first.
