Why do Motor Homer`s tow cars?

Having used caravans and motor homes over the years, I am puzzled by the increase in the number of motor homes, some quite small, towing cars. This seems to negate the one advantage of motor homes which suit continous touring and easier access on minor roads. The combined costs of motor home and car is greater than a car and caravan if you compare actual living space. Having driven an `A`` class the road handling and comfort falls short of a quality car when it is being used solo and when both are towing the same limitations apply. Of course it is great that we all have our choice but the logic of towing with a motor home seems odd to me.
