My M'home tyres are now just into their seventh year and are due to be replaced.

My question is this.........Do I have to change the spare which has never been used, never been in sunlight and to all intents and purposes is Brand New.

All advice greatly received.....cool

No, leave the spare ,after all it's only a spare , if you do need to use it just change it back asp

so, you only posted here for a "laugh" coolwink

I would disagree, change the spare as well

It is not like brand new as it is 7 years old, if you have to use it how will you know for sure it is "as new"

I would put the value of one tyre above the value of having an accident!

I agree with Huskydog, if the spare is undamaged ie no splits or cracks in the side wall or between the treads, then it'll be perfectly OK for use as a spare. There's no legal max age for a tyre (yet) ... just a guide line

If the spare has not been used, has been protected from the worst of the elements, has never had the weight of the vehicle standing on it, why change it? Agreed, it won't be 'as new' but it won't have deteriorated to the degree the other 4 have.

As the on topic part of Husky's post said, change it back asap just in case and I would also keep my speed down if/when using it.

I agree with Tinners, if the spare has only ever been a spare, i think its life should be 10 years at least, being in the hot sun deteriorates rubber the fastest. But dont go mad with it fitted, and put it back as the spare asap.  Safer than a Spacesaver wheel, or a can of goo .

Surely not H/D,   I don't understand your last sentence ----what could make you think that. surprised

I certainly would not change an unused spare wheel after 7 years.

Cheers........................K    wink
