Remap. Result.

We had an Autotrail chieftain remapped at a tuning place in Cornwall in 2013. Amazing difference, so much torque.  Fuel economy only suffered by 2 mpg but as I got used to the extra grunt it was very easy to get major clutch slip as the drive train couldn't cope. Had injector pump failure due to too much right foot and then abs unit failure trying to stop that train! All my doing though and I will say a good mod to release useable power.

I have had the last 5 or 6 motorhomes retuned regardless. Wowpower who visit all the shows have done them all and I am always amazed with the difference. Current van is 205bhp twin turbo but still benefited from it. The map takes it from a typical Iveco mapping for all types of service to a more refined motorhome map. In the grand scheme of things the cost is minimal. 

Certainly after increasing the power output one has to be aware of the damage that could result if it is used at full potential all of the time. But that could be the case for any state of tune. The way we drive though, which is very carefully ( light right foot ), has resulted in a much more leisurely drive. Especially in the hills of Yorkshire. It will be interesting to see when I fill up later today what the fuel consumption is. If its better all well and good. If worse not too worried either. Will report back later. 

I tend to remap everything I buy... in the Motorhome it means I can sit at 60 in 6th and not even feel most hills on motorways. I reckon gave me @ 10% better fuel economy. Made a huge difference to towing as well. Obviously in the MH I am not interested in acceleration..... as for the 535D well thats another story 

Does a re-map affect your insurance?  Do you have to inform your insurance company?

The insurance firm should be notified although it seems that there is no penalty for the conversion.

Normally it just affects the owners ego

Have just had my VW Camper Van re-mapped but now having difficulty finding a company willing to insure it. Can anyone help?
