Recently my engine heater gauge shot to the red, imediatly put the heater on and pulled over, lifted the bonnet, engine was cool, water correct etc. rang recovery to come out as I didnt was to carry on the journey but while waiting went on the internet to find its a "common" problem, caused by static building up in the cable. The remedy, remove four screws from the instrument panel, two hidden, then disconnect the centre plug, switch ingntion on for 10seconds then then switch off. problem then can take a few days to resolve itself, mine took about three. I actually left it disconnected on site for a couple of days as well to make sure

However I would never assume it was this problem, recovery guy never heard of it but still checked everything was ok prior to asking me was I going to carry on!!!
