MMM biased against A Frames

I have never had an issue in Europe and I covered a lot of miles and have heard no adverse reports of others facing issues. The issues people are facing in my opinion are exclusive to Spain who clearly do not accept the use. Has anyone had issues anywhere other than Spain?

There have been reports of people being stopped and cautioned in Germany, but not actually fined. In the end, I believe the police always turned a blind eye.

...we have been stopped in Germany and Belgium, neither times fined but it was made very clear that it was not allowed especially in Belgium.

There have been Brits fined in Germany one posted on here that he was fined while in Bitburg.

Many who over winter do take a car on an A frame to Spain, some of them seperate the car from motor home once in Spain and drive them separately, or drive overnight.

Choose a trailer every time. Why risk the chance of having your holiday spoiled when on the continent.  No need to have the car adapted, just drive on to the trailer fit the tie downs hitch up and go.  Use twin axle trailers as they are stable and inexpensive.

Why take a car on the continent ? Unless you have a whopping great RV I cannot see the point.

For us 3 key reasons:-

1. Family holiday staying 3-4 days at each location, packing up the motorhome and driving off somewhere just not an option really as in our case a 1hr packup to be ready to drive was the norm. Yes hire cars an option but costly and remove flexibility.

2. I do enjoy the spirit of driving especially over the passes, and a 5 ton motorhome doesn't enable that, especially at 6am when the family (and the rest of the world) were sleeping meaning the passes were empty.

3. There were places in Italy that we would never have seen without the car, just inaccesible in the motorhome.

Granted though, Europe was surprisingly well setup for motorhomes and so without the family and being able to travel light I can see why it could be worked around.

Overall having the flexibility of the car vastly improved our trip this year.
