Maximum weight and non C1 licence

A friend of ours had exactly the same problem, and wondered if the MC could be plated lower and was advised by the manufacturer that it would not be possible?

You can almost certainly have your van down plated.  I suggest you talk to SvTech.  A phone call or email will get you all the correct information at no cost.  It will then be up to you to decide how to proceed.  

Down plating is fine providing it leaves you with sufficient pay load? Have you thought about getting your bigger licence restored?

I have had, and passed my D4 medical to regain my C1, and my application has been with Swansea for over six weeks, but with their (unacceptable) delays, it may well be many weeks yet before it’s confirmed.  Meantime, I want to order a 3700kg MTPLM motorhome. I am sure I will be OK medically (I am a private pilot and have a current medical authorising me to carry passengers throughout Europe), but as I am 78 in November, I will have this medical ‘Sword of Damocles’ hanging over me every three years, which is why I would be more comfortable with a 3500kg limit..  

As I understand the wording on the bit of the D1 application form that you don't send in, if you have had the entitlement in the past and are applying to reinstate it, you can drive with the entitlement while your application is with DVLA (other acronyms are available).

What is the payload of the 3700kg MH?
if it's not well over 500kg (incl a decent amount of water) it will be virtually unusable at 3500kg.

It’s yet to be announced. The basic motorhome is 3500 kg, but with with the additions we want, it will have to be up-plated to 3700, (though the MIRO and payload not yet announced). We currently have a twin axle caravan, that has a payload of 300kg on an upgraded plate, but we don’t get anywhere near that.  Looks like I will have to accept the 3700kg, and keep fingers crossed for future medicals🤞🤞

A, C1 is liable for renewal every year ,as far as i know !! .
