Gas hose

At a recent habitation check by a main dealer we were advised that the gas hose was in need of replacement because of its age. Subsequently found that the dealer had fitted a standard high pressure hose but not the Truma rupture protection unit, this was left lying in the gas locker. When asked why it hadn't been re-fitted the engineer was not sure what a rupture protection unit was. Is it normal for these units to be fitted next to the cylinder connector, do most manufacturers fit them? I don't want to make an issue out of this if the units are an unnecessary gimmick. On the other hand if they are required should I take this up with the manufacturer - who has presumably approved ther dealer's service organisation.

looking at your picture, i'm guessing that you have one hose which switches at the bottle end between bottles as they need changing?

if so, is the orange hose in the picture the 'old' hose and is not connected at all?

now, regarding the rupture proof hose, this and the special shut off regulator you have (green button) combine to provide extra safety should you have an accident, the hose fails and the valve to the gas bottle is open, for example when using gas heating on the move.

if the bottle valve is closed, the rupture proof system cant add anything.

however, it is remotely possible that a hose could fail when you are in the van using the gas as normal, and in this circumstance, i guess the extra protection would help.

as to whether you want to replace what the dealer has fitted, thats upto you, but i would have thought it should've been a like for like swap.

The rupture protection unit is fitted for add safety by responsible manufacturers, and should have been refitted when the "old" hose was replaced,

The plot thickens. Truma refuse to sell the hose on its own, they only supply the hose complete with gas rupture unit. This means that a £10 hose replacement miraculously becomes a £35 cost. Can't fault 'em can you?
