Our 2012 Ducato motorhome has had an intermittent diesel leak since new. Diesel was leaking from the top when it was more than 3/4 full.
On it's third visit to a Fiat main dealer they found the problem was a defect in the plastic fuel tank where the top fuel lines go in. Occasionally the neck is deformed so the cap gasket does not seal properly. If the tank it filled to the brim the pressure forces diesel past the gasket, I would advise anyone taking possession of a new Ducato to get the dealer to fill it to the brim and check for leaks before collection.
The top of the tank can be checked via an inspection hatch between the seats (under which is a panel with three screws which reveals the tank).
Our motorhome is currently getting a new tank fitted at Fiat, and we're told that they have seen this fault before.
