Creaks, Squeaks, and Rattles

Having caravanned for 20 years, it may well be that our vans creaked and rattled when on the move, but of course not travelling in them, we never heard it.

Now with our first motorhome, albeit only a couple years old, and low mileage, we have been astonished at how noisy it is when travelling.

Not what we have put in it, but the furniture, microwave, Remis blinds etc, etc

I have been going around putting sticky backed plastic pads on door, and draw shuts, tightening screws, and wedging bits of foam rubber into joints that I think are squeaking, etc, but it seems to be an impossible task.

Are all motorhomes inherently noisy, and if so do you drive with ear plugs in? wink

Its a real pleasure to get into the silence of the car.

Hi Tinwheeler, it's not just the rattles.  Experiencing poor workmanship in so many other areas.  Feel we bought the Friday build.  The dealer also has a 2 month wait for repair/warranty work and of course other dealers will only work on vehicles they have sold.  I find this beyond infuriating and wonder if Trading Standards would be interested in looking into this as far as warranties are concerned.   The industry infrastructure can't seem to cope with the level of sales in the last 12 months.  Sorry for sounding so negative but after spending tens of thousands I'm feeling pretty sore.

Hi Tinwheeler, charged using My Profile.  Just realised 'old' name was still my late much loved dog. πŸ™

If it’s really that intolerable, I’d be considering rejecting the van Clyde/Jac. It’s a fairly common tale but the first instance I’ve heard admitted of such problems with a foreign built van.

That’s a turn up for the books as it never used to be possible.

Sorry about your dog. Been thereπŸ™

Having had and enjoyed German built cars for the past 30 years the Motorhome is a big disappointment.  And compared to the Murvi van and the fantastic Murvi aftercare service it's tragic.  Buyer beware indeed!

We weren't at all impressed by Murvi, to be honest, and thought their built quality a bit shoddy. They were also very limited in their layout options only offering the standard offside seat/bed with a few kitchen variables. Not for me, I’m afraid, but we all have different requirements.

30 years caravanning then switched to a motorhome. Couldn’t believe the noise! Yes, it’s possible to gradually eliminate several of the problems but that makes life too difficult. In the end we use motorways and Autoroutes and just live with the noise on minor roads.

When flying in a light aircraft it is customary to wear a headset so that one can converse with the pilot, perhaps the same could apply in the average motorhome?
