Just had my van back and find they have either replaced or fitted a Carbon Monoxide Alarm. Cant find any mention of such an alarm in the Van handbook. Could be that it was not fitted, regarded as an essential in 2010.  However I cant find the darn thing. Anyone any idea where it might be located in a Van conversion

So you say they have fitted one but you cannot see it?

I think under UK law you have to have one nowadays.  It is normally on a bulkhead somewhere at least 1m from the nearest gas appliance, maybe in a PVC it is in a cupboard or something, maybe best to call the dealer...

If it is not out in the open I would doubt how well it might work, if at all.

Also, supposed to be a little bit down from the roof.

Thanks both. Found it discreetly fitted on a bulkhead just inside rear doors. Plenty of air room round it.

Then  it  would  be  wise  not  to  spend  time  leaning  in  the  doorway  having  the  last  couple  of  pipes  full  of  Owd  Capn  Jeremiah's  Best  Navy  Cut  before  you  go  to  bed wink !!

When I look at my CO detector on the wall, I hear my old gaffers words. "" You don't want to be down that there pit, with the engine running ! "

So does CO travel up or down, ?  Is the effectiveness by mounting on a wall diluted ?

Rgds

The alarm should be high up and preferably close to the sleeping area.

You need to be able to hear it as easily as possible to ensure you are woken by the noise.

Ours is high up by the door. Certainly if it is affected as easily as the smoke alarm, in the same location, it is sited correctly. Just the faintest whiff of burnt toast and that is off. The air flow seems to carry it straight towards it. It is between the two potential sleeping areas, which again makes sense.
