Hi everyone. We have an elderly Marquis Motorhome (2002) which had a special towbar fitted to tow our 2017 Ford Ka. The engineer specified that we must not tow a car over 1,000kg (1 tonne). The Ford is now getting a bit old and we are looking for a replacement.

Does anyone know what cars about 2-3 years old fit the following spec:

1. Less than 1 tonne kerb weight

2. 2-3 years old;

3. AC or, better, climate control; and preferably

4. 4/5 doors.

I have been searching through Auto Trader and it is really difficult to obtain this information - particularly the kerb weight - about second-hand vehicles.

I would recommend the Peugeot 107,it fits all your criteria and I believe it's under 900 kgs.I have just recently started towing a 3 year old P 107 and I'm quite impressed with the driving comfort for such a small and basic vehicle.

Can you advise me as to what towing system you have chosen for your tow behind cars please?

Have a look at the Suzuki Celerio, 5 door, 835/845Kgms even the automatic can be towed. A great spacious tow car, the handbook even explains how to tow it behind a motorhome. Good m.p.g. and no VED

For towing I recommend Towbars-2-Tow, a excellent electronic system which unlike the overide braking system is not hard on the brakes of the towed car. Its lighter than most, professionally made and fitted.

We tow a Peugeot 107 behind our motorhome. Its a great little car ours is the Allure model so has alloy wheels tinted windows and air con also its free tax and gets 60mpg. We use an A-frame from Armitage trailers which is very good and easy to set up we have never had any bother with it and the car tows well behind the motorhome. The car weighs 830kgs so within your limit. Hope this helps.

If you take a look at Parkers.co.uk, it might be useful to you.

Takes a while, to find your way around, but will give weights, dimensions, reviews etc.

Rgds.

Hi Peedee

I am toying with the idea of a tow car but it must be Auto for the wife, as an everyday runabout when not being towed.

You mentioned your suzuki was auto... how does that work? Do you have to stop often etc

Many thanks
