Hello Folks ! I've just joined the Club as I'm in the process of buying my first vehicle - a 2005 Danbury Active Campervan conversion of a 1.9L Renaut Trafic. I've received an insurance quote through the Club website link. I know nothing about Caravans/Motorhomes so would be grateful for any advice/comment including of the "I wouldn't have done that if I were you" type !

Stay Safe !

Some may say joining CAMC was your first mistake, others may differ 😄.

There is a general acceptance that you don't get the choice of MC right until you choose your third unit.

Welcome to the club and this madhouse called CT plenty of good advise on here from most, when neededwink

1 The decision to buy a campervan is your first good move if most of your touring will be in the UK ,as it will make it much easier to get about from any site cool

2 Joining the cc is as most will advise ,will make it easy for a "newby" to get about as the  booking site is easy to use laughing

I have never found the Club’s insurance to be either the best or the cheapest. They (or rather their subcontracted providers and Underwriters) are very picky about who or what they will insure. Shop around.

They certainly didn't want our business. There quote was more than double what we ended up paying for the same level of cover from Comfort.

Our CAMC M/H insurance has remained at a consistently reasonable price. When we needed to call them them over an incident a year ago, they were extremely helpful, no problems at all. smile

Shop around for insurance  just as you would do for your car. You need to decide how you will use your MH, for example limited mileage, UK only, overseas, etc... then get a variety of quotes and compare. We have never found CAMC insurance quote cheapest, but sit all depends on what you want.

I'll second Comfort, underwritten by Aviva & has a breakdown cover option

I also use Comfort, NFU is also pretty good. I only change from the NFU to Comfort because the NFU didn't cover Croatia.

Check out the Help and Advice pages on both the C&MC and C&CC web pages. You don't have to be a member to read either.

Thanks for the responses & advice. The quote I had through the Club was some 30 % more than the lowest quote (& Excess figures) I've had thus far (from Lifesure via comparethemarket). I looked at the Comfort website (thanks for the steer) but that says upfront that cover starts from £220 which is 20% more. I've checked through the Policy wordings of the quotes I've had but can't see any reason why Lifesure would represent poorer value in the event of a claim but if anyone thinks I may have missed something in connection with the Club (Devitt)  Insurance Ts&Cs I'd be grateful to know.

Insurance for your campervan will depend on where you live, where you store it, what it's worth, how many miles you intend to do, your age, your previous driving record and all sorts of other things. None of us can tell you which is best for you. Shop around, as others have said.
