Trouble with alko stabiliser

Hi I wonder if anyone can help.  When my caravan is not hitched up I can move the red handle of the alko up and down easy,but when I hitch it up to the car I have trouble pushing the handle down, I have to stand on it to push it home.  I know this is not right lol. I have only had this caravan for acouple of months. But my old van had an alko and it was no where near as hard as this one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
