Retractable Access Steps

Wonder if anyone else has noticed this.?

Why is it that caravan owners have to put up with using a loose step?

Motor homes usually have a retractable step fitted to the van, either electrically operated or manual (lever or just pull out). Saw various types of step at the NEC show, and was wondering if one could be fitted. Looked simple enough in theory, but we have decided to get a mover fitted, which would be right in the way, as the door is in front of wheel.

Why can't the manufacturers fit this type of step as standard? Wouldn't cost much, retractable steps RETAIL fairly cheap, even electric ones.!

Ground clearance wouldn't be a problem, as the lower lip on the side panel is a long way below floor level.
