Hi all, i'm looking to replace the tyres on my Bailey Barcelona S2 the existing tyres from new are Michelin green X 185/65r14 86T, I've been in touch with Michelin to see what there current equivalent is and they tell me they don't make "Caravan" tyres in that size so I'm looking for recommendations for alternate tyres that you guys have fitted (to a Barcelona)

Ta

Have you e-mailed Bailey and asked them,as they  specified that tyre on your van ,it would be interesting to hear what they say if Michelin do not make that size tyre for caravans

Scubadogs IThis is isn't quite the answer to the question you asked but I hope that it is of use to you. I have always fitted commercial tyres with the correct load rating to my caravan (not a Bailey). Never had a problem.

When ever I've changed tyres it's always been "8 Ply, Light Truck" tyres I've put on. (suitable for a Ford transit, or similar)

Just because they are fitted to a caravan does not mean that that they are caravan specific.  I did a quick search and both Goodyear and Bridgestone produce tyres in that size, others may also do so.  Just ask you local dealer.

yeah, Michelin also do a tyre in that size but they don't recommend it for caravans, I suspect as the van has "proper" suspension car tyre might be OK but I thought i'd ask as if the worst were to happen I think insurance companies are trying hard to get out of paying  nowadays

Thanks, If i can't get a direct replacement i'll go for something like that or as  Mitsi said commercial tyres. all our works vans VW transporters use "reinforced" tyres

Ditto. I just just asked  two local independent tyre shops in town what commercial tyres in my size they recommended for given weight of caravan, what were the prices, what would they would charge to fit them at home, when could they get them, then placed the order.

Reinforced tyres will provide a much harder ride.  Not that you will notice but they may cause added vibration which will cause things to shake loose and possibly fail.  If bailey have done their job correctly in the design stage the spec they fitted in the first instance will provide the best ride at the correct pressure.

just get them balanced after fitting to stop vibration. wink
