Generators - love 'em or hate 'em?

Me, I hate them.  With the exception of people who need a jenny to support vital equipment, I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone needs to fire one up within 24 hours of arriving on site.  We were away for 5 days over Easter and did everything we wanted to do, including watching a bit of TV, and the battery was still going strong on Monday. For some reason, generators are always run in the early evening, disturbing the peace just when you'd want to be outside with G & T and a BBQ.  Can you imagine the noise level if every single person on site used one of these wretched things at  the same time?  Perhaps they should only be permitted between 1 pm and 3 pm when most of us are out and about, but of course that would inconvenience the owners of these noisy machines. Good!
