We collected our first caravan on Saturday and are working our way through how everything works! With our van we got a gas bottle included and it is a 6kg calor lite propane bottle. I wanted to get another as a spare but can't seem to find them anywhere but when I Google it says they were discontinued by calor?? 🤷‍♀️ What do you all use and recommend?

We will almost always use EHU so only really need for our cooker and gas bbq. We have a flogas bottle at home and it's fab as you can actually see how much gas is left. The flogas one we have has a push on connector where as the one in the caravan is screw on so not sure how it could work? There is so much to get your head around!!🤣🤣

Hi, If you can describe the Flo Gas cylinder you may get more suggestions.

We use 10kg propane sourced from Flo Gas BUT these cylinders, which you can see through, were formerly known as BP Gas Light cylinders and also come in 5kg size.

They have a clip on connector.

We also have a 6kg steel cylinder with a clip on connector BUT some come with a screw on!!

It seems like it may simply require a connector change??

That is the same as the gas lite propane one we have at home which has a push on connector but the calor one we got with the caravan is a screw on one.

Buy whatever size and shape of gas cylinder will fit your caravan locker, then buy the sort of pigtail you need to connect it up.

As I mentioned just get the regulator type that you need, same millibar rating-probably 37mb, and fit.

The 10kg Gas Light will fit in my front locker so you may wish to go that route or stick with the one that came with the van but be aware that getting a refill may be an issue.

You can also get 11kg propane steel with a clip on connector.

We like you always use an EHU but have two Safefil bottles.....one is now nearly 9 years old!  I find now having got Alde heating heating that I use the gas a lot more especially in the morning when the kettle is on with hair dryers etc.  Makes it all a lot easier.

Also when at the colder end of the season the Alde heating is a lot quicker and more effective using gas with electricity..especially when you have a family that like it to replicate the Florida Keys

For this reason using refillable is extremely worthwhile to me as I also use my little bottle in the BBQ at home when I found out that the replacement refilled Flogas was £45 a go!

I got 2 Calor propane bottles out of the Manchester Ship Canal. Took them home, give them a blast with a pressure washer and took them the main Calor depot and exchanged them for full ones.

Calor Lite cylinders are still available but in limited supply, as they fail inspection they are scrapped and not replaced.  There was talk of a replacement lightweight cylinder but seems dead in the water.  Calor's recommendation is to use 3.9kg cylinders where weight is a concern as the gross weight full is roughly same as a full light one.

I carry two 3.9kg calor bottles. In a normal year I spend over 4 months of the year on sites and, being on EHU use around 6kg a year. Probably take me around 10 years to recoup cost of refillable. 3.9kg are lighter and an easier size for me to manage and available on site unlike a refillable that, for me, would represent more faff.
