Fire Alarms; Where should they be fitted

Why do caravan and motorhome builders always seem to place the Fire Alarm over or very close to the cooker?

Ours is directly over the cooker.

esult when we turn any burner on the fire alarm starts to shreek and cannot be stopped except by tirning off the burner or by taking the fire alarm down

Others complain of the same problem; with the result that many people remove the alarm and place it in a drawer (like ours is without the battery) or they just remove the battery and replace the case. New models arenow designed to prevent replacement without the battery; the reason that ours is in a drawer.

I know that the instructions state that they should be fitted in the area where the greatest heat/smoke would be, but common sense would discount directly over the cooker
