Cars getting lighter

As car makers launch new models they appear to be shedding quite a lot of weight.  For example the new Golf, Audi A3 and Skoda Octavia models all appear to be about 100Kg lighter.

Prior to our current Yeti we had three Octavia vRS models, they weighed in at between 1450 and 1500 Kg depending on body style.  The Octavia 3 vRS looks as if it will in at around 1350Kg, making the choice of 'vans you can tow with it much narrower.

I am sure these weight savings will be seen across all car makers sooner or later.

So my question is if caravan weights don't drop by similar levels what will you do?

Smaller van?

More basic van?

Move up to a bigger car?

For us we would go smaller.
