caravan tracking methods

Tracking a ‘missing’ caravan.

Being new to caravanning I find all ‘letters’ in our magazine both interesting and educational but would like to read something about tracking systems.

Our van is stored in a secure compound so I am thinking that I do not need an expensive tracking permanent system for when not in use. However my concern is its the possible theft when it is in use ( perhaps abroad ) or just when we are out for the day.

I read that there are now many Apps for smart mobile phones that allow the user to trace the phone in the event of it being mislaid or stolen.

My idea is that when we go out for the day I use my mobile switched on but left hidden in the van .

In the event that the van is stolen I make use of the tracking facility to locate the mobile phone hence the van, by using my partners mobile and perhaps Google.

Has any 'techi' out there, got any idea if this is possible?
