I've done various bits of it over the years, mostly the northern bits and lived to tell the tale. No particular problems and we tow with a medium sized unit. I haven't been on it around Brecon but know people who have and they haven't had any problems. It's not the quickest of routes and I'm unsure if you intend to do it in one go. That would be tiring for me.
Maybe not exactly what you wanted and I'm sure those that travel along more frequently will be along in due course.

I have towed along the A470/A487 more times than I can remember. It is not primarily a fast route and usually takes me 4/5 hours towing Caernarfon to Cardiff depending on the volume of traffic and the number of heavy lorries. The main places to watch are the river bridge in Carno which is single file with poor visibility and, as mentioned elsewhere, the crossroad and very narrow street in Rhaeadr.
Pob lwc, mwynhewch {good luck, enjoy}
